Our Programs |
It’s all about the people of Bamboi.
BamCashea began in 2018, accelerated by founder Tabatha Rood’s deep connection to the hardworking people of Bamboi, the natural environment rapidly degrading around them, and the human and natural exploitation that is a byproduct of unchecked development.
Our programs are based in the community of Bamboi, Ghana, which sits on the Northern banks of the Black Volta River. Its location is ideally situated for both cashew and shea agro-forestry industries, both of which present opportunities to support increased income for women and farmers.
BamCashea is working to develop each of these local sectors by increasing output, reducing post-harvest loss and waste, and adding value to secondary agricultural products.
We aim to empower the people and community organizations of Bamboi to utilize the existing rare and handcrafted products of their fruiting cashew and shea trees. How do we do that? By funding the facilities and materials, facilitating access to financing, and providing training for capacity building.
We have seen first-hand how these efforts can increase income and capital, promote gender equality in land and resource management, and help the community gain access to life-sustaining benefits such as increased food security, access to education, and improved access to healthcare.
